Interim Head Teacher – SEND Residential School

About the role

We are looking for an Interim Head Teacher to lead a SEND residential school and college in Brighton. The role provides inspiring, professional, and purposeful leadership to ensure high‑quality education, residential care and continuous improvement during the temporary appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Inspire, challenge and empower staff and students to achieve their full potential.
• Work with Trustees, Governors, parents and the wider community to embed the school’s ethos and values.
• Develop and implement a strategic plan with robust financial planning to drive student achievement.
• Monitor and evaluate performance against comparable organisations and report to Trustees and Governors.
• Oversee management, finance, organisation and administration to support the school’s vision.
• Promote high‑quality teaching, effective learning, excellent residential practice and positive behaviour.
• Lead the Residential Manager to meet minimum standards and continuously improve residential care.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably within residential education.
• Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities with a track record of setting and achieving long‑term goals.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to continuous professional development for self and the institution.
• Knowledge of statutory frameworks such as Companies House, Charity Commission, DfE and related bodies.
