Interim Payroll Manager

About the role

This interim position offers the chance to lead a small payroll team while overseeing end‑to‑end UK in‑house payroll and multiple outsourced international payrolls for a fast‑growing real‑estate organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full cycle of UK in‑house payroll for all employees.
• Oversee outsourced international payroll providers to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Lead, coach and develop a payroll team of two.
• Act as the primary contact for external payroll providers and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain compliance with UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NIC, pensions and statutory payments.
• Review payroll reconciliations, reporting and month‑end activities.
• Process and approve payroll changes such as starters, leavers, salary adjustments and benefits.
• Resolve complex payroll queries and support HR and Finance teams.
• Maintain robust payroll controls, documentation and support audit requirements.
• Identify and drive process efficiencies and support related projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing end‑to‑end UK in‑house payroll.
• Strong background in international payroll with outsourced providers.
• Previous experience leading a small payroll team.
• Excellent knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, pensions and statutory requirements.
• Effective stakeholder management with HR and Finance partners.
• Hands‑on, detail‑oriented and able to improve processes.
• Available immediately or on a short notice period.
• Experience in a multinational or real‑estate environment is a plus.

• Competitive daily rate between £300 and £350, dependent on experience.
