Interim Public Health Consultant

About the role

We are supporting a large public sector organisation in the West Midlands to appoint an Interim Consultant in Public Health. This senior, eight‑month role will lead strategic initiatives on long‑term conditions, prevention and neighbourhood health transformation across local government, NHS providers and the Integrated Care System.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across public health, prevention and neighbourhood health programmes.
• Lead delivery of prevention programmes targeting cardiovascular disease, frailty, falls prevention and healthy ageing.
• Develop and embed place‑based health models and population health management into service redesign.
• Strengthen partnerships with local authorities, NHS organisations, primary care, community services and the voluntary sector.
• Use population health intelligence and evidence to inform decision‑making and drive system‑wide change.
• Embed prevention and population health management within care pathways.
• Provide governance, performance monitoring and reporting for public health programmes.
• Build effective relationships with senior clinicians, executive leaders and system partners.

Required profile

• Current registration on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List or UK Public Health Register (UKPHR).
• Significant public health experience within the NHS, local government, ICB/ICS or equivalent, at Consultant or Director level.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale transformation and prevention programmes that improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities.
• Strong change management expertise with ability to influence organisational culture.
• Excellent analytical and strategic skills to translate evidence into delivery.
• Experience working within an Integrated Care System or large local authority.
