Interim Senior Category Manager – Procurement (6‑month contract)

About the role

This interim position supports a London local authority’s Regeneration, Economy & Housing Development division. You will provide senior procurement and commercial leadership, ensuring best‑practice procurement and risk management across major regeneration projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and embed commercial strategies, governance and procurement best practice.
• Promote procurement benefits to service heads, demonstrating value for tenants and leaseholders.
• Provide construction procurement support for housing regeneration and delivery services.
• Lead contract negotiations and manage contracts for large regeneration works and day‑to‑day purchases of professional services and works.
• Create procurement project plans that respect budget constraints, start‑date requirements and public procurement legislation.
• Drive risk‑management initiatives across the procurement portfolio to minimise legal challenges.
• Ensure work‑plans, appraisal, supervision and staff development align with organisational objectives.

Required profile

• Relevant professional qualification (e.g., MCIPS) or equivalent senior‑level experience.
• Extensive experience in public‑sector procurement and commercial contracts, including knowledge of the Public Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contract Regulations 2015.
• Proven track record establishing complex contracts within local‑authority regeneration, housing, public‑realm or corporate‑property contexts.
• Understanding of built‑environment contracts such as JCT, NEC, PPC2000 and Design‑and‑Build forms.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve cost savings and deliver sustainable procurement benefits.
