Interim Team Manager – Children & Young People Disability

About the role

This interim position leads the Children and Young People Disability team within Reading Council. It is a six‑month contract, paid at £47.50 per hour, and offers a hybrid working pattern with two days in the office each week.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise a team of social workers.
• Provide oversight of individual cases, ensuring safeguarding and risk management.
• Coordinate multi‑agency partnership working.
• Drive performance and quality assurance across the team.
• Oversee child protection and Children in Need (CIN) processes for disabled children.
• Deliver social care assessments, short‑break and respite services, direct payments and personal budgets.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker, fully registered with Social Work England.
• Minimum three years post‑qualification experience in a local authority setting.
• Significant experience managing social work staff.
• Specialist knowledge of working with disabled children.
