Internal Audit Assistant Manager – Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Internal Audit Assistant Manager to join a fast‑growing professional services firm in Birmingham. You will play a pivotal role in delivering internal audit engagements for public sector and corporate clients while supporting the firm’s expansion across the West Midlands.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, plan and deliver a range of internal audit engagements for public sector and corporate clients.
• Manage end‑to‑end audit assignments and report directly to senior leadership.
• Coach and develop junior team members, fostering their growth into risk and control specialists.
• Own client relationships, ensuring high‑quality, value‑added service delivery.
• Monitor budgets, manage project financials and agree fees for assignments.
• Contribute to business development activities to grow the audit function.
• Provide clients with practical insights, recommendations and sector best practices.

Required profile

• Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIA or equivalent).
• Proven experience managing a portfolio of audit clients across public sector, not‑for‑profit or corporate environments.
• Strong technical internal audit knowledge combined with a commercial mindset.
• Experience leading teams and developing junior staff.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence senior levels.
• Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• A desire to actively contribute to business growth and shape a developing audit function.

Required skills

What we offer

• Base salary of £50,000‑£54,000 per annum.
• Hybrid working model (4 days onsite in Birmingham city centre).
