Internal Technical Sales Engineer

About the role

The role is based in Chelmsford and involves providing technical advice to end‑user clients for a market‑leading manufacturer of process control, automation and energy‑management equipment. You will combine inbound technical enquiry handling with proactive business development to turn routine queries into high‑value solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage inbound technical enquiries, reviewing specifications, drawings and applications to recommend suitable products.
• Act as a trusted advisor, expanding routine enquiries into larger projects (e.g., from £5K to £250K).
• Maintain existing accounts and allocate ~1 hour daily to proactive outreach, focusing on dormant accounts.
• Collaborate closely with the internal engineering team to scope and deliver solutions.
• Identify commercial opportunities, upsell where appropriate and close deals.

Required profile

• Engineering or technical sales background with strong technical aptitude.
• Comfortable discussing technical specifications with clients and internal teams.
• Proven experience in phone‑based sales, cold calling and handling objections.
• Ability to ask probing questions, uncover client needs and translate them into solutions.
• Residency within commuting distance of Chelmsford, Essex.
