IT Support Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an experienced IT Support Assistant to join a well‑established engineering business in Whitworth. Working closely with the IT Manager, you will provide day‑to‑day technical support, advice and maintenance for the company’s hardware, software and network infrastructure. The role starts as a temporary assignment with the potential to become permanent after a successful probation period.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and patch Windows servers and manage Active Directory, GPO, DHCP, DNS and RAID configurations.
• Provide network support, including firewall configuration, VPN/BOVPN setup, LAN and VLAN installation.
• Install, configure and repair operating systems, PC hardware, printers and VoIP handsets.
• Support software applications such as Office 365, Windows, and Microsoft SQL Server, including T‑SQL query troubleshooting.
• Maintain the company’s timesheet system and overall IT infrastructure.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and appropriate PPE is used on site.

Required profile

• Full UK driving licence.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments and desktop support.
• Strong knowledge of networking concepts and hardware troubleshooting.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team on IT projects.

What we offer

• Salary £25,000‑£35,000 depending on experience.
• 37 hours per week (Mon‑Thu 7:30‑16:00, Fri 7:00‑12:00).
