IT Team Lead

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Level 2 Onsite IT Lead Technician to act as the senior technical presence at a dedicated school site in Stevenage. The role combines 1st, 2nd and some 3rd line support, mentoring of junior staff, and delivery of small IT projects to ensure a first‑class service for staff and students.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1st, 2nd and initial 3rd line IT support across hardware, software and network infrastructure.
• Act as the senior onsite technical lead and primary point of contact for school staff.
• Mentor and support Level 1 Technicians and Apprentices.
• Troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory and networking issues.
• Support classroom technology, AV equipment and end‑user devices.
• Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues including switches, Wi‑Fi, cabling and network connectivity.
• Manage and prioritise support tickets, ensuring SLA targets are met.
• Maintain accurate documentation, asset registers, user accounts and change records.
• Deliver approved technical changes and small onsite IT projects.
• Collaborate with internal technical teams, third‑party suppliers and stakeholders to ensure excellent service delivery.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a 2nd Line or Senior IT Support position.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Windows 10 & 11, Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams & SharePoint), Active Directory & Group Policy, and networking (switches, VLANs & Wi‑Fi).
• Experience with hardware diagnostics and repairs, backup technologies such as Veeam, and imaging/deployment tools (SCCM, MDT or Intune).
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to other customer sites when required.
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
• Professional, customer‑focused approach with excellent communication skills.
• Comfortable working full‑time onsite within a school environment.
