IT Technician (Part Time, Fixed Term)

About the role

The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge is looking for a part-time (0.6 FTE) IT Technician to support its IT team. The post holder works as part of a team delivering IT services to the Department and provides first and second line support, including solving routine technical issues. The Department is based at two sites in central Cambridge and West Cambridge, and the appointee must work flexibly across all areas and travel regularly between them.

Key responsibilities

• Act as first point of contact and respond to a broad range of service requests
• Investigate problems in systems and provide first and second line support
• Solve routine technical issues
• Install and remove hardware
• Assist with website administration

Required profile

• HND, HNC, level 4/5 vocational qualification or equivalent practical experience
• Recent experience providing user support and troubleshooting Windows and macOS clients
• Previous experience in an IT department with demonstrable knowledge of IT support
• Ability to manage and prioritise tasks, strong communication skills and teamwork
• Previous experience in Higher Education is advantageous
