Junior Bookkeeper – Entry Level Accounting Role

About the role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within an established and forward‑thinking accountancy firm for a Junior Bookkeeper to join their team in Shaftesbury. This role is designed for an enthusiastic candidate with little to no prior experience who is eager to start their accountancy career and build long‑term practice experience up to AAT Level 2. It offers direct exposure to client work and hands‑on skills across bookkeeping, VAT and general accountancy support.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a varied client portfolio, processing sales and purchase invoices.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations across bank accounts, credit cards, and online payment platforms.
• Assist senior team members with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
• Act as a polite and professional point of contact for clients, handling everyday queries and building positive relationships.
• Assist with client payroll processing, tax administration, and routine communications with HMRC.
• Support the wider accounts team with basic sole‑trader accounts and administrative tasks.

Required profile

• Little to no prior experience required; desire to begin a career in accountancy practice.
• Studying towards or interested in starting AAT Level 2 qualifications.
• High numerical accuracy, analytical thinking and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with colleagues and clients.
• Good IT literacy and confidence using or learning modern cloud‑based accounting platforms.
• Full commitment to working onsite at the Shaftesbury office, with occasional flexibility for home working.
