Junior Clinical Fellow – Emergency Medicine

About the role

The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Junior Clinical Fellow to join its busy Emergency Department. This 12‑month fixed‑term position starts in August 2026 (or ASAP) and combines frontline clinical work with a specialised fellowship.

Key responsibilities

• Provide assessment and treatment to patients across the full spectrum of emergency presentations.
• Work 75% of the time on the core resident rota, covering 24‑hour ED service.
• Allocate 25% of time to a bespoke fellowship in Major Trauma, Medical Education, Quality Improvement, Toxicology or Ultrasound.
• Undertake projects and additional training related to the chosen fellowship, with funding for academic qualifications such as a PGCert.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic and driven medical doctor with experience in emergency medicine.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of consultants, SAS doctors, advanced clinical practitioners and ENPs.
• Willingness to engage in research, education or quality‑improvement activities alongside clinical duties.

Required skills

• Proficiency in emergency medicine clinical practice.
• Ultrasound competency (or willingness to develop this skill during the fellowship).
