Junior Developer – JavaScript, React, AI‑First (Govt Service)

About the role

You will join a small internal engineering team within a national public body that provides free, impartial legal advice across England and Wales. As one of the first developers in a newly‑built in‑house capability, you will work closely with the Technical Lead to create clear, reliable digital services used by over a million people each year.

Key responsibilities

• Develop clean, accessible front‑end interfaces using React, HTML and CSS.
• Collaborate with back‑end engineers to integrate Python/Django services.
• Help scope and define work items, communicating requirements before coding.
• Adopt an AI‑first development approach, using coding assistants as part of daily workflow.
• Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA and the GOV.UK Service Standard.
• Maintain code quality with Git and collaborative version control.

Required profile

• At least 18 months of commercial software development experience.
• Strong communicator comfortable discussing and scoping work.
• Commitment to an AI‑first development mindset.
• Interest in building purpose‑driven public‑sector services.
