Job description

About the role

We are seeking two motivated Junior Development Chemists to join a well‑established organisation in South East London. Reporting to the Technical Support/R&D Manager, you will support product development, testing and optimisation within a dynamic laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Work safely at all times, following Health & Safety procedures and maintaining good laboratory housekeeping.
  • Comply with company management systems, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and support the Environmental Management System.
  • Plan and deliver laboratory projects: design experiments, analyse data, prepare reports and present findings.
  • Develop and improve products, formulations, specifications and test methods.
  • Investigate competitor products, gather customer feedback and support factory optimisation trials.
  • Provide technical support for raw materials, production, quality control, sales and customer enquiries.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and analytical testing methods.
  • Identify risks, opportunities and non‑conformities, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Assist with internal audits and preparation of H&S documentation, including Safety Data Sheets, COSHH and Risk Assessments.
  • Represent the company on relevant industry committees and undertake other duties as required.

Required profile

  • Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum two years’ laboratory experience.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • Experience managing projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible, proactive and willing to undertake further training.
  • Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.

  • Impactor testing.
  • Cathodic disbondment tester.
  • Microsoft Office suite.
  • Microsoft Teams.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, ISO and NACE industry standards.
  • Preparation of Safety Data Sheets, COSHH assessments and Risk Assessments.
