Junior Geotechnical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join a respected multidisciplinary consultancy in York. You will work on residential, commercial and major infrastructure projects, developing your technical expertise and project management skills in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and undertake geotechnical site investigations and ground assessments.
• Supervise intrusive ground investigations and site works.
• Perform soil and rock logging, sampling and groundwater monitoring.
• Interpret geotechnical and geo‑environmental data.
• Prepare factual and interpretative ground investigation reports.
• Conduct foundation and earthworks assessments.
• Assist with slope stability, retaining wall and earth retention design assessments.
• Coordinate geotechnical laboratory testing programmes.
• Support project delivery from initial investigation through to reporting and design.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams while ensuring health and safety compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a geotechnical engineering or ground investigation consultancy.
• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical principles.
• Experience preparing geotechnical reports and interpreting site data.
• Knowledge of foundation design, earthworks and geotechnical assessment methodologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
