Junior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join an established Building Services Design Consultancy as part of the launch of its new Edinburgh operation. You will work within an experienced multidisciplinary design team, supporting the delivery of mechanical building services projects from concept stage through to completion, and contribute to the growth of the Edinburgh office.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design of mechanical building services systems.
• Support the production of HVAC and public health engineering designs.
• Prepare calculations, technical reports, specifications and schedules.
• Produce and review design drawings using industry‑standard software.
• Assist with site visits, surveys and project inspections.
• Work closely with electrical engineers, architects and project teams.
• Support energy‑efficient and sustainable building services designs.
• Learn and develop knowledge of UK Building Regulations and industry standards.
• Contribute to project delivery across a variety of sectors.

Required profile

• Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in building services and mechanical design engineering.
• Proactive attitude with eagerness to learn.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Previous consultancy experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Full UK driving licence is advantageous.
