Junior or Newly Qualified Solicitor – Landlord & Tenant Litigation

About the role

We are looking for a Junior or Newly Qualified Solicitor (or CILEX Lawyer) with litigation practice rights to join Ashley Taylors Legal’s Landlord & Tenant Litigation Department in Uckfield. Working under the supervision of senior solicitors, you will develop your litigation expertise while handling a variety of landlord‑tenant disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake fee‑earning work with supervision and contribute to departmental objectives.
• Develop expertise in defended and complex cases, including fast‑track and multi‑track matters.
• Draft legal documents, comply with court directions and orders.
• Progress towards independent management of smaller matters while supporting larger cases.
• Correspond with clients, defendants, courts, solicitors and managing agents.
• Keep clients updated on case progress.
• Issue possession claims via the Possession Claims Online system.
• Prepare paper applications for court, including manual, accelerated and warrant possession applications.
• Draft notices seeking possession and prepare instructions for advocates and counsel.
• Maintain and update case‑management spreadsheets.

Required profile

• Good knowledge of landlord and tenant law (training available for those without specific experience).
• Basic understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules and litigation processes.
• Strong IT skills and ability to work independently.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to prioritise under pressure.
• Confident communication with clients and third parties, both in person and by phone.
• Commitment to confidentiality and a proactive, adaptable attitude.
