Junior Software Developer – Cloud & Python (Hybrid)

About the role

We are looking for two Junior Software Developers to join our team in Exeter. You will work on cloud‑based systems that deliver critical weather and climate data, using Python and AWS technologies. The role is hybrid, allowing you to split your week between the office and home.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable APIs and cloud‑native services that provide fast access to forecasts and observations.
• Engineer solutions in Python and AWS to bridge data services with user platforms such as the Met Office App and public website.
• Collaborate in an agile, multidisciplinary team to deliver user stories under supervision.
• Ensure system performance, scalability and reliability, leveraging output from high‑performance supercomputing.
• Participate in testing activities and maintain awareness of security best practices.
• Support and mentor more junior colleagues as you grow.

Required profile

• Ability to work effectively in an agile team and follow guidance from senior developers.
• Willingness to adopt a hybrid working pattern.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Experience with AWS cloud services.
