Junior Software Engineer

About the role

Fosterli is a venture‑backed Tech for Good startup transforming the fostering assessment journey. As a Junior Software Engineer you will join an early‑stage team, working closely with the CTO and founders to build and scale a platform that helps agencies, social workers and prospective foster carers.

Key responsibilities

• Build, test and maintain new features across the Fosterli platform.
• Develop front‑end and back‑end functionality using modern web technologies.
• Design and consume APIs to enable platform integrations.
• Work with databases, authentication systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate in agile sprint cycles, taking part in planning, estimation and retrospectives.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold high code‑quality standards.
• Write automated tests to ensure reliability and performance.
• Support deployment and release activities for development and production environments.
• Engage directly with users to translate feedback into product improvements.
• Contribute to technical documentation, engineering processes and scalability planning.

Required profile

• Strong technical foundations and genuine enthusiasm for building software.
• Recent graduate, self‑taught developer, bootcamp graduate or early‑career engineer.
• Ability to learn quickly, solve problems and adapt in a fast‑moving startup environment.

Required skills

• JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
• React or modern front‑end frameworks (e.g., Next.js).
• Node.js or similar back‑end technologies.
• SQL databases and data modelling (PostgreSQL).
• REST API development and integration.
• Git version control (GitHub).
• Basic familiarity with cloud services (AWS).
