Junior Specialist Doctor – Higher Acute Medicine

About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Specialist Doctor (Higher) to join the Acute Medicine Department across MMUH, Sandwell Hospital and City Hospital, Birmingham. The role starts as a 12‑month fixed‑term contract with the potential for extension based on performance.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in ward rounds on the Acute Medical Units (AMU).
- Lead Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) pathways and collaborate with the Emergency Department to streamline patient journeys.
- Deliver acute medicine virtual clinics and manage specialty sessions.
- Provide focused ultrasound examinations (FICE, CUSIC, FAMUS) and teach these techniques.
- Correspond promptly with General Practitioners and support medical student and MRCP teaching.
- Contribute to research, audit projects and weekly medical meetings.
- Provide mutual cover for colleagues during leave and participate in the GIM middle‑grade rota.
Required profile
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- MRCP qualification.
- ALS certification up to date.
- 3–4 years post‑qualification experience, ideally at ST3 level in acute medicine.
- Recent General Medicine experience and familiarity with NHS working practices.
Required skills
- Advanced Life Support (ALS).
- Focused Ultrasound techniques (FICE, CUSIC, FAMUS).
