Laboratory Specialist Placement – 12.5‑month Internship

About the role

The Materials Laboratory at Airbus in Broughton provides specialist testing and analysis services for internal and external customers. This 12.5‑month placement will give you hands‑on experience in mechanical, chemical and metallurgical testing while supporting operational teams. You will work on data collection, experiment design, result interpretation and laboratory documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with operational teams and integrate with support functions.
• Gather data through investigations, experiments and literature reviews.
• Design and carry out experiments, then analyse and interpret the results.
• Perform statistical analysis of generated data and maintain data integrity.
• Adhere to COSHH requirements and promote laboratory safety.
• Produce protocols, summary reports, standard operating procedures and other documentation.
• Identify and implement improvements to laboratory processes and test methods.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Thrives in a challenging environment and follows defined processes.
• Strong team‑working attitude and excellent research and presentation skills.
• Previous laboratory experience is preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of analytical methods and laboratory instruments.
• Statistical analysis of experimental data.
• Familiarity with COSHH safety procedures.

• Salary of £24,246 per annum (35 hours per week).
