Laboratory Technician – Fragrance Lab Compounder

About the role

Manpower is seeking an interim Laboratory Technician to join Unilever’s fast‑paced FMCG R&D environment at the Port Sunlight scientific facility. This fixed‑term position runs for six months (37.5 hours per week) and supports the global fragrance R&D teams by accurately formulating samples to defined recipes.

Key responsibilities

• Weigh out raw materials according to precise recipes and order of addition.
• Record all laboratory work, including labelling and documentation of results.
• Handle and store a range of raw materials safely.
• Collaborate with the laboratory team and raw‑material assistant manager to monitor stock levels.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and ensure calibration for accurate use.
• Follow all safety and laboratory management procedures (risk assessments, health & safety, CoSHH, standard operating procedures).
• Update the project team on any challenges or timing changes.

Required profile

• Practical laboratory experience in sample preparation with a strong eye for safety and accuracy.
• Interest and curiosity in fragrance, with basic knowledge of perfumery, chemistry or formulation preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team.
• High motivation, numeracy, attention to detail and calmness under changing priorities.
• Clear communication around deadlines and issues.
