Laboratory Technician

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and organised Laboratory Technician to support the day‑to‑day operation of a busy research laboratory at the University of Oxford. The role starts immediately, runs for an initial 12‑week fixed term, and offers a competitive hourly rate plus holiday pay.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain laboratory equipment, arrange servicing contracts and ensure stock levels are sufficient.
• Keep the lab clean, perform sterilisation, manage waste disposal and uphold health‑and‑safety standards.
• Support inductions, training and day‑to‑day guidance for laboratory users.
• Assist with operational planning, process improvements and the preparation of SOPs and risk assessments.
• Promote compliance with Good Laboratory Practice, COSHH and other relevant regulations.

Required profile

• Experience working in a laboratory environment and handling hazardous chemicals.
• A‑level or equivalent qualification in a scientific subject.
• Knowledge of laboratory health and safety regulations, including COSHH.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work independently.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy setting.
