Law Cost Draftsperson

About the role

Our client, a leading litigation practice in Central London, is seeking an experienced Law Costs Draftsperson. You will play a pivotal role in preparing and managing detailed assessment costs, supporting the team’s success across high‑value cases.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and prepare inter partes bills of costs, points of reply/dispute, and N260 documents.
• Oversee issuance of Notices of Commencement and related paperwork.
• Attend detailed assessment hearings as required.
• Negotiate costs budgets in County Court and High Court proceedings, including attendance at Costs & Case Management Conferences.
• Provide technical cost guidance to fee earners and maintain accurate time‑costing procedures.
• Contribute to internal training and the development of cost‑management processes.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a costs draftsperson in private practice.
• Strong knowledge of CPR Part 47 and costs recovery processes.
• Proven negotiation skills and ability to work independently within a supportive team.
• Current experience in private work (not Legal Aid).

Required skills

• Expertise in drafting inter partes bills of costs and related cost documents.
• Familiarity with CPR Part 47 proceedings and costs‑related case law.
• Ability to negotiate costs budgets in both County and High Courts.
