Lead Aerodynamicist – 12‑month contract

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Aerodynamicist to join BAE Systems' Flight Sciences Engineering team on a 12‑month contract. The role involves providing specialist aerodynamic expertise across current and future air programmes, supporting design, analysis, testing and flight clearance of complex air vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Provide aerodynamic support for a range of Air Sector programmes.
• Lead aerodynamic research, design, computational analysis and testing activities.
• Support flight clearance and certification processes.
• Contribute to the development of aerodynamic toolsets and digital transformation initiatives.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Ensure compliance with engineering governance and SHE standards.

Required profile

• 8–10 years post‑graduate experience in aerodynamics within industry or research.
• Degree (BSc/MEng/MSc) in a STEM subject; PhD or equivalent research experience is desirable.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to obtain BPSS and Full Security Clearance (ITAR restrictions apply).

What we offer

• 12‑month fixed‑term contract
• £47.41 per hour PAYE or £63.96 per hour umbrella (inside IR35)
• 37‑hour week, on‑site (Mon‑Thu preferred)
• BPSS and Full SC clearance required (ITAR)
