Lead Costs Negotiator – Fixed Recoverable Costs

About the role

Lead Costs Negotiator within an in‑house team, managing a portfolio of fixed recoverable costs cases for Fast Track and MOJ matters, from settlement through to court hearings. The role is based with Keoghs, primarily remote with occasional visits to the client’s insurance office in Manchester.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse costs claimed and prepare cost‑strategy reports.
• Identify strengths and weaknesses and document findings.
• Negotiate costs within settlement parameters.
• Handle correspondence and telephone calls.
• Undertake periodic file reviews in line with client requirements.
• Instruct counsel or costs lawyer for Detailed Assessment or conduct own advocacy.
• Meet agreed performance targets and ensure compliance with SRA standards.

Required profile

• Experience as a costs negotiator for claimant or defendant, handling own caseload.
• Understanding of Detailed Assessment process, cost case law and insurance litigation.
• Ability to prepare Points of Dispute and consider replies.
• Good initiative, planning and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent listening, verbal communication and decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and work as part of a team.
