Lead Electronics Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer for a 6‑month contract with a market‑leading defence and aerospace client. Based in Ampthill, you will own the design, development and support of mixed electrical/electronic solutions from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and support mixed electrical/electronic solutions following a phase‑gate development process.
• Define processes, specifications and procedures that support hardware design and manufacture.
• Conduct technical reviews of supplier capabilities to aid source selection.
• Develop functional and physical design requirements for integrated architecture.
• Create analogue, digital, micro‑processor, FPGA and power‑electronics circuitry.
• Analyse, test and evaluate electronic/electrical circuits and components.
• Perform circuit simulation and analysis.
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including trade studies, requirements, compliance evidence and test reports.

Required profile

• Formal electronics qualification (HNC, HND or BEng).
• Experience in electronics hardware design and product development for harsh environments.
• Proficiency with schematic capture, PCB layout and IPC standards (preferably Altium).
• EMC awareness at product and PCB level.
• Knowledge of defence/military standards, safety and quality processes.
• Ability to support and manage assembly, integration and test activities.
• Experience with lab test equipment, JTAG design and circuit debugging.
• Familiarity with PLM tools such as Windchill.
