Lead File Handler – Military Disease (NIHL Claims)

About the role

The Lead File Handler will manage a personal caseload within the Military Disease department, focusing on NIHL (noise‑induced hearing loss) claims and other disease cases. The role also includes supervising a small team, guiding technical development and ensuring profitable client outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Review documents, prepare reports and supervise team reports and files.
• Approve bills for own and team cases.
• Develop the team’s technical competency framework and strategy.
• Create guidance documents and support strategy meetings.
• Conduct investigations, obtain witness statements and instruct experts.
• Attend conferences, trials and court appointments, handling routine correspondence.
• Liaise with insurers and insureds, ensuring compliance with SRA standards and court timetables.

Required profile

• People‑person able to supervise a mini‑team.
• Strong initiative, negotiation and communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Self‑organised, able to prioritise workload and meet targets.
• Enthusiastic, hardworking and technically proficient in NIHL disease cases.
