Lead Software Engineer – Control Systems

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to head our Energy team, delivering design, development and implementation of DCS and PLC/SCADA control systems. The role is permanent, hybrid, and starts as soon as possible, offering up to 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the team through the full project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning.
• Design, develop and implement software for DCS, PLC and SCADA platforms.
• Produce Function Design, System/Detailed Design and Test specifications.
• Write IEC 61131 code using ladder, function block diagram, sequential function chart and structured text.
• Perform internal and customer Factory Acceptance Tests and conduct technical reviews of engineering work.
• Coach and support less‑experienced team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience with Siemens PCS7/Neo automation stations and OS.
• At least 5 years experience with one additional controller technology (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Schneider M580/M340).
• At least 5 years experience with one SCADA package (e.g., COPA‑DATA Zenon, Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk View SE).
• Proven ability to produce detailed design and test documentation.
• Experience performing FATs and technical checking.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and work to QA procedures.
• UK BPSS security vetting required.

• Siemens TIA Portal for S7 PLCs.
• Rockwell ControlLogix/CompactLogix (Studio 5000).
• Schneider M580/M340 (EcoStruxure Control Expert).
• COPA‑DATA Zenon, Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk View SE, Codra Panorama, ArchestrA System Platform.
• IEC 61131 programming (ladder, function block diagram, sequential function chart, structured text).
