Lead Splunk Engineer – Observability & Monitoring

About the role

Meritus Talent is seeking a Lead Splunk Engineer to support a central government client in London. The 12‑month contract focuses on building enterprise‑wide observability and monitoring solutions, with a hybrid working model (2 days on‑site).

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement monitoring and observability standards across a complex enterprise environment.
• Act as the technical authority for Splunk Enterprise and Splunk ITSI platforms.
• Develop automation using Terraform, GitHub, REST APIs and Infrastructure as Code principles.
• Collaborate with technical teams to define requirements and deliver scalable monitoring solutions.
• Support complex incident investigations and drive continuous service improvement.
• Integrate Splunk with ITSM, automation, and other monitoring tools.
• Maintain documentation, standards and monitoring patterns, and mentor the observability team.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Splunk engineering, architecture or lead observability role.
• Splunk certification with hands‑on expertise in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk ITSI.
• Experience automating Splunk with Terraform, GitHub and REST APIs.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with experience in Agile environments.
• Ability to obtain SC clearance and work in regulated government settings.
