Lead Veterinary Surgeon – 24/7 Hospital

About the role

We are seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon with a passion for both people and pets to join our 24/7 Hospital in Shrewsbury. As Lead Veterinary Surgeon you will guide the veterinary team, embed Animal Trust values and help create a caring working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Guide and mentor the team of vets, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
• Work closely with the Practice Manager and Lead Nurse on day‑to‑day clinic operations.
• Evaluate clinic KPIs and P&L to drive optimal performance.
• Lead staff meetings, clinical governance meetings and performance management sessions.
• Support the implementation of the Animal Trust Values and foster a nurturing workplace.

Required profile

• Strong clinical expertise with a passion for coaching and mentoring.
• Excellent communication skills with clients and the veterinary team.
• Hold or be willing to obtain a VetGDP qualification.
• Business acumen preferred for assessing KPIs and P&L.
• Experience conducting 1‑2‑1 meetings and performance management.
• Confident leadership of staff and clinical governance meetings.
