Learning Mentor – Physical Education (PE)

About the role

We are seeking a Learning Mentor with a strong background in Physical Education and sport to support a primary SEMH school in Bournemouth. The role uses PE as a vehicle to engage pupils, develop emotional regulation and promote wellbeing across the primary age range.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored PE and sport sessions for individual learners and small groups.
• Use activity‑based approaches to build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.
• Support behaviour management and emotional regulation through sport‑led interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff and external agencies to remove barriers to learning.
• Participate in meetings, training and safeguarding duties as required.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people in a school or community setting.
• Background in PE, sport, coaching or behaviour support.
• Experience with SEMH needs is desirable.
• Up‑to‑date safeguarding training (within the last year).
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

Required skills

• Knowledge of primary‑level PE curriculum and sport coaching techniques.
• Ability to adapt activities to meet diverse emotional and behavioural needs.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
