Learning Mentor – SEMH & Vocational

About the role

New Chapter Tuition is seeking a Learning Mentor to work with learners aged KS3‑KS5 who have SEMH, ADHD, emotional and behavioural needs or trauma histories. This full‑time, permanent, term‑time only position is based in Crawley and offers the chance to inspire young people through practical vocational learning.

Key responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners.
• Deliver engaging vocational learning on a 1:1 basis and in small groups of up to eight learners.
• Support learners with SEMH, ADHD, SEND and additional behavioural needs.
• Apply effective de‑escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies.
• Create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Promote confidence, resilience, independence and positive engagement.
• Collaborate with colleagues, families and external professionals to achieve positive outcomes.

Required profile

• Experience as a Learning and Behaviour Mentor, Sports Coach, Youth Worker, Mechanic/Engineer Cadet, Forces Vocational Instructor or Alternative Provision Practitioner.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Proven experience supporting children and young people with SEMH, ADHD, SEND or challenging behaviour.
• Strong de‑escalation and behaviour management abilities.
• Trauma‑informed, nurturing and relationship‑led approach.
• Genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to making a lasting difference.

What we offer

• Salary £21,731 – £24,195.50 per annum.
• Up to £2,500 annual performance bonus.
• Full‑time permanent term‑time only contract.
• Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (direct learner contact 9:00 am – 2:30 pm).
• Start date September 2026 (possibility to start earlier).
• Training begins 24 August 2026.
