Learning Mentor (SEND) – Supporting Students with Special Needs

About the role

A SEND school in Hackney is looking for a compassionate Learning Mentor to provide tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You will help learners overcome barriers, build confidence, and develop independence while working closely with teachers and families.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group mentoring for students with SEND.
• Support academic, social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Assist in implementing individual learning plans and interventions.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students, families and staff.
• Monitor progress and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENDCOs, parents/carers and external agencies.
• Promote inclusion so students can fully participate in school activities.
• Encourage resilience, self‑esteem and positive learning behaviours.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, empathetic and supportive approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
• Relevant qualifications in education, mentoring, youth work or SEND support are desirable.
• Enhanced DBS clearance.
