About the role
We are seeking a passionate Learning Mentor to provide sports coaching and teaching assistance to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in an Alternative Provision setting in Sunderland. The role involves one‑to‑one and small‑group support, helping young people manage emotions, behaviour and engage with learning.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group sessions supporting pupils with SEMH, focusing on emotional regulation and behaviour management.
- Collaborate closely with class teachers to understand individual learning styles and adapt support accordingly.
- Build positive relationships with pupils aged 11‑18, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assist in lesson delivery and provide additional academic support where needed.
Required profile
- Relevant teaching, learning or childcare qualification (desired).
- Experience working with children in UK schools, particularly with SEMH or SEND pupils.
- Strong ability to build rapport with pupils and staff.
- Resilient, proactive and positive attitude.
- Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
- Two professional references covering the last two years.
What we offer
- Daily rate of £95‑£110.
- Full‑time position (Monday‑Friday) until July 2027, with a temp‑to‑perm pathway.
- Immediate start in Sunderland.
