Learning Support Assistant – Colchester Schools

About the role

Protocol Education is partnering with inclusive secondary schools in Colchester to recruit Learning Support Assistants. You will work alongside teachers to support Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students, including those with additional learning needs such as SEN, helping them stay engaged and achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils across KS3 and KS4.
• Assist teachers in adapting lessons and resources for students with SEN.
• Monitor student progress and report observations to teaching staff.
• Promote a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
• Help maintain classroom order and safety.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people (school‑based experience desirable).
• Calm, patient and nurturing approach.
• Confidence supporting students with additional needs, including SEN.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
• Proactive and adaptable attitude.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of SEN support strategies.
• Ability to follow safeguarding and child‑protection procedures.
