Learning Support Assistant – Epping Forest (Temporary)

About the role

This temporary position supports students with disabilities or learning difficulties in colleges and sixth forms across Epping Forest. You will work closely with lecturers to ensure a safe, inclusive classroom environment and help students achieve their academic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective support to individual students or small groups across a range of subjects.
• Identify opportunities for independent work while maintaining safety and comfort.
• Maintain accurate records of support provided, progress, and attendance.
• Encourage interaction with peers and participation in lecturer‑led activities.
• Assist with pastoral care and promote positive behaviour in line with the college’s policies.
• Support students' emotional and social needs, modelling appropriate behaviour.
• Reinforce learning by practising previously taught skills.
• Accompany lecturers on college visits and attend college functions during working hours.

Required profile

• Willingness to obtain or already hold a Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualification.
• Readiness to undertake any required support qualifications.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Motivation to support students with disabilities or learning difficulties.
• Previous relevant experience in an educational setting.
• Commitment to ongoing training and development.
• Understanding of equal‑opportunity principles and safeguarding.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
• Ability to conduct internet searches.
• Basic knowledge of First Aid.
• Basic knowledge of food hygiene.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures.
