Learning Support Assistant – SEN (Full‑time/Contract)

About the role

The Learning Support Assistant (SEN) will work within a school setting to help students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities access the curriculum, build independence and reach their potential. Reporting to the SENDCo/Inclusion Manager, you will collaborate closely with teachers and the SEND team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs.
• Assist students during lessons to ensure they can engage with the curriculum and make progress.
• Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning, communication and emotional needs.
• Promote independence, confidence and inclusion within the school community.
• Deliver targeted interventions under the direction of the SENDCo or teaching staff.
• Monitor and record student progress, sharing feedback with teachers and the SEND team.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals to optimise outcomes.
• Uphold safeguarding standards, maintain confidentiality and act professionally at all times.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a school environment.
• Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
• Patient, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take initiative when appropriate.
