Learning Support Assistant – SEND Specialist (Lewisham)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Lewisham. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time, term‑time only. You will work directly with pupils who have complex needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop independence in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, and related needs.
• Assist with communication, emotional regulation, personal care and sensory interventions.
• Implement behaviour‑management strategies and support the delivery of tailored learning programmes alongside teachers and therapists.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, ensuring accurate documentation of achievements.
• Promote an inclusive, positive classroom atmosphere.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or adults with complex SEND needs.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Calm, patient and adaptable attitude in challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Required skills

• Team Teach training
• MAPA (positive behaviour management) training
• Knowledge of PECS communication system
• Familiarity with Makaton sign language
