Learning Support Assistant – Special School

About the role

The Learning Support Assistant will work closely with teachers at Birtenshaw School Merseyside, an independent special school, to create a supportive learning environment for pupils aged 3‑19 with EHCPs, complex health needs, learning disabilities, or autism.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering curriculum and therapy activities, including swimming and sports sessions.
• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils throughout the school day.
• Help prepare and maintain learning resources and classroom settings.
• Support pupils during transport runs and extracurricular activities as required.

Required profile

• Willingness and ability to work with pupils who have significant physical or medical needs.
• Flexibility to work part‑time (19.25 hrs/week) or full‑time (38.5 hrs/week) schedules, including training weeks.
• Commitment to the school’s vision of “Transforming Lives”.

Required skills

• Ability to support pupils in therapy, swimming pool, and sports activities.
