Learning Support Assistant – Specialist School (ASD)

About the role

Join a specialist school dedicated to supporting students aged 11‑19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As a Learning Support Assistant you will work in a calm, structured environment, helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Support students during lessons to ensure access to the curriculum and sustained engagement.
• Encourage emotional regulation, social interaction and independent learning in both small‑group and one‑to‑one settings.
• Assist teachers with lesson delivery, adapting activities to meet individual needs.
• Maintain accurate records of progress and contribute to personalised learning plans.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and families to provide consistent, inclusive support.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably with ASD or other special educational needs.
• Knowledge of the National Curriculum and its adaptation for additional needs.
• Strong communication, teamwork and safeguarding awareness.
• Flexibility and creativity in meeting individual student requirements.
• GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade A‑C or equivalent).
• Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning (or willingness to train).

Required skills

• Understanding of safeguarding, SEN and inclusive education practices.
