About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist setting that supports children and young people with additional needs, including autism and related communication or sensory challenges. In this rewarding position you will help pupils engage with learning, develop essential life skills and build confidence.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with additional needs.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities.
- Support students with communication, emotional regulation and behaviour management.
- Encourage independence and confidence within a structured environment.
- Implement individual education and support plans.
- Liaise with teachers, therapists and wider staff to ensure consistent support.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly autism (desirable).
- Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils.
- Resilience and a proactive attitude.
- Relevant qualifications or training in education, care or support work (preferred but not essential).
Required skills
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to follow and implement individual support plans.
- Basic understanding of autism and sensory needs.
