Lecturer in Microelectronic Systems Design and Implementation

About the role

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Sheffield is seeking a Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to lead research and teaching in Microelectronic Systems Design and Implementation. The role focuses on system‑level architecture and hands‑on digital implementation across chip and board levels.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architectural decisions for System‑on‑Chip (SoC) designs, sensor integration, and data conversion.
• Oversee hardware‑software co‑design and workload partitioning under power, thermal and technology co‑optimisation constraints.
• Guide and supervise students and research staff in digital VLSI, embedded systems, low‑level firmware, and high‑speed PCB design.
• Participate in silicon tape‑outs and industrial product development programmes (e.g., Europractice, eFabless, TinyTapeout).
• Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules related to microelectronic systems.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Architecture or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and validating digital integrated circuits or board‑level platforms.
• Strong publication record and ability to secure research funding.
• Experience bridging academic research with industry‑focused silicon development.
