Legal Counsel – Construction Law for District Heating Projects

About the role

Hemiko is seeking a Legal Counsel with strong construction law capability to support the delivery of its large‑scale district heating and heat network projects across the UK. The role will work closely with the General Counsel, C‑suite and project teams, providing advice on procurement, contracting, delivery and operational issues.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or support drafting, review and negotiation of construction and project agreements, including NEC‑based contracts.
• Advise commercial, delivery and operational teams on contract interpretation, risk management and administration throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide pragmatic advice on contract strategy, change control, delays, defects, payment, claims and dispute avoidance.
• Support tender and procurement activities, manage external legal advisers and track relevant legal developments.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with approximately 4 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong construction law experience, preferably in‑house or in private practice supporting developers, contractors or infrastructure projects.
• Commercially minded, proactive and able to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts and ability to advise on procurement, drafting and administration.
• Strong communication skills to explain legal issues clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, assess risk and provide commercially‑focused advice.
