Legal Counsel – Litigation

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing consumer lender in London to recruit their first qualified lawyer with a focus on financial services disputes. This hands‑on Legal Counsel will manage and defend claims related to debt recovery, Section 75, and fraud, while also overseeing the paralegal function and handling broader commercial contract matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and defend litigation claims involving debt recovery, Section 75, and fraud disputes.
• Supervise and develop the paralegal team.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align legal strategy with business objectives.
• Utilise AI‑driven tools for claims management where applicable.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) as an England and Wales qualified lawyer (barristers also considered).
• Proven experience in financial services disputes, especially debt recovery and consumer credit.
• Current or recent experience working with a lender, consumer credit business, or financial services organisation.
• Experience supervising junior staff and managing stakeholder relationships.
• Open to candidates currently in private practice.
