Legal Counsel – Operations & Infrastructure

About the role

Santander UK is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Operations & Infrastructure Legal team. Based in London or Milton Keynes, you will support the bank’s digital, technology and operational functions by providing commercial legal advice on a wide range of contracts and regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and advise on contracts for outsourced and material services, including cloud provider arrangements.
• Manage agreements for consultancy (IT), marketing, sponsorship, intra‑group services, insurance distribution, cash‑management, employee platforms and strategic projects.
• Interpret and apply regulatory regimes relevant to a ring‑fenced UK bank.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver clear, commercial‑focused legal guidance.
• Develop and maintain legal templates, checklists and provide training to internal teams.
• Monitor legal and financial‑services developments to ensure timely compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a legal counsel or similar role within a financial‑services or technology environment.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to communicate legal concepts to non‑lawyers.
• Proactive risk‑management mindset and willingness to challenge where appropriate.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Expertise in contract drafting and negotiation.
• Knowledge of digital, technology, data‑privacy, payments and intellectual‑property law.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing UK ring‑fenced banks.
