Linesman Civils Operative

About the role

Our Operations team in Basingstoke is seeking a Linesman Civils Operative to join a two‑person civils gang. You will carry out groundwork, pole erection and support electrical cable installation, working safely and to high standards on electricity distribution projects.

Key responsibilities

• Excavation and service trenching for cable works.
• Erecting poles and operating small highways maintenance plant and equipment.
• Conducting ground surveys and locating underground services using cable avoidance tools.
• Reading design drawings, reinstating cable joint bays and installing electrical cables (training provided).
• Continuously reviewing hazards, completing risk assessments and adhering to company and client safety procedures.
• Liaising with on‑site representatives and reporting unsafe conditions.

Required profile

• Proven experience working on or near electricity distribution networks.
• Understanding of electrical safety rules and relevant legislation.
• Valid NRSWA/EUSR/CSCS card and appropriate mechanical excavator or CPCS/NPORS cards.
• Ability to work as part of a small team and progress towards supervisory responsibilities.
