About the role
DXC Technology is seeking a Linux System Administrator to join its Manchester team. The position is based on‑site five days a week and supports mission‑critical services for a platinum‑level client. You will work within multiple teams, applying analytical thinking and a detail‑oriented approach to improve system reliability and compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Provide first‑ and second‑level technical support for incidents and problems.
- Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth functionality.
- Create, maintain and utilise documentation for systems and procedures.
- Assist in building compliance with processes and policies.
- Implement standards, policies and procedures for continual service improvement.
Required profile
- Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities.
- Experience working to ITIL best practices.
- Strong desire to improve processes and identify root causes.
- Willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
- Proactive attitude toward risk identification.
Required skills
- Proficiency with UNIX/Linux platforms (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX).
- Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell) and automation (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef).
- Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers).
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP).
- Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS).
- Performance tuning and monitoring tools (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat).
- Scripting knowledge in Bash, Python and version control with Git.
- Experience with AWS and virtualization/container technologies (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman).
