Linux System Engineer – Red Hat – Investment Bank (London)

About the role

Join a global investment bank’s Systems Engineering team in London to maintain and evolve a large‑scale, globally deployed Red Hat Linux platform. You will automate configuration, patching and deployment, develop reliable Python tooling, and work closely with engineering, operations and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance a global Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform.
• Develop and support critical Linux infrastructure components using configuration‑as‑code.
• Build robust automation tools in Python for patch testing, deployment and remediation.
• Configure, tune and troubleshoot Linux operating systems and platform‑management tools.
• Diagnose complex issues across hardware, OS, networking and storage.
• Collaborate with global teams to prioritise and implement platform improvements.

Required profile

• Expert knowledge of Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• Strong understanding of UNIX system calls and low‑level OS/network protocols.
• Experience managing large‑scale Linux environments with SaltStack, Puppet, Chef or similar.
• Proficient Python development skills for building maintainable code.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting ability across hardware, OS, networking and storage.
• Right to work in the UK and ability to commute to the London office three days per week.
