Litigation Barrister (London)

About the role

We are seeking a Litigation Barrister to join The Legists in London, working within the Government Legal Department. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality legal advice, manage a diverse litigation caseload and support ministers and senior officials on complex legal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Advise ministers, departmental officials and other stakeholders on litigation and regulatory issues.
• Prepare and present arguments in court and tribunals on behalf of government departments.
• Draft legal opinions, briefing notes and policy guidance.
• Manage a portfolio of cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
• Collaborate with internal legal teams across advisory, commercial and employment law.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Strong analytical judgement and ability to provide balanced, risk‑based advice.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, high‑visibility environment.
• Eligibility for DV security clearance where required.
