About the role
We are seeking a Litigation Barrister to join The Legists in London, working within the Government Legal Department. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality legal advice, manage a diverse litigation caseload and support ministers and senior officials on complex legal matters.
Key responsibilities
- Advise ministers, departmental officials and other stakeholders on litigation and regulatory issues.
- Prepare and present arguments in court and tribunals on behalf of government departments.
- Draft legal opinions, briefing notes and policy guidance.
- Manage a portfolio of cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Collaborate with internal legal teams across advisory, commercial and employment law.
Required profile
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Strong analytical judgement and ability to provide balanced, risk‑based advice.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, high‑visibility environment.
- Eligibility for DV security clearance where required.
